About the MACBA approach
Dealing with mental health issues is difficult.
So is talking about them.
Typical social settings place too many rules on what is okay to discuss, which leaves people yearning for real connection and understanding to life’s issues feeling alone.
The MACBA approach comes from a few ideas:
Removing barriers to discussing real issues
Boldness to do difficult things
Utilizing modern and up-to-date modalities and methods for treatment
Balancing a creative & authentic approach with professionalism and intentionality
Appreciating the irony and paradox in life situations
My practice is named after MACBA, a contemporary art museum in Barcelona where skaters from all over the world can meet and be themselves as they do what they do best without restriction from themselves or others. It is a space where skaters continue to challenge themselves in all sorts of different ways without prohibition that exists in most public spaces.
Inside, it is a place for artists to express and display creative works and hot takes on contemporary issues in society. Outside, it is an architectural masterpiece with smooth surfaces and terrain perfect for skaters to do what they do best.
